Astromech Droids

Astromech droids range in size, but their designs tend to be utilitarian. There has been little attempt to make the droids seem more like sentient creatures. The droids can only communicate in a strange language of characteristic tones. Few sentients other than Duros can decipher any of it, but other droids are programmed to understand it. Astromech droids may also communicate through the intermediary of a computer.

The primary function of astromech droids is to repair and maintain the systems of a starship. Larger capital starships may have several of the droids on hand to assist their engineering crews, and it has become almost standard for new starfighters to be equipped with a droid bay for in-flight repairs. Astromech droids are also used for interfacing with computers in any capacity, and are occasionally misused for simple labor.
