Byss
From Star Wars - Dark Horizon's MUSH
"The canyons still echo with the death of those powerful in the Force. Be mindful of your feelings."
- --Luke Skywalker exploring the ruins of Byss
The planet that once served as an Imperial Garrison during the rise of the Empire has fallen from its place of honor once the Emperor was defeated at Endor. The once-rich world's best times are past and its economy has grown stagnant again.
Factories that once produced armor and guns for the Empire are silent. The towns that supported them mere whispers of a once-massive symphony of evil and the once-blue skies are filled with grey clouds that swirl around the old factories. The climate has changed, with extreme heat and moisture by day, frost and ice by night. The very rocks weep. The largest city is Tristesse, home to a couple million denizens. There is no functional government in the city, and the surrounding factories are abandoned and serve only as hangouts for rival gangs. Violence and lawlessness reign supreme on Byss, and the city is cruel to off worlders, though at the same time desperate for new blood ... or at least new credits. Gambling, slavery, drugs, bounties, murders. You can find it all in the city.
Tristesse is surrounded by deep canyons that follow no pattern of sentient thought. Some are ancient, while others were formed more recently by the vicious night storms. The sun rarely peeks through the dense, festering clouds. Engulfed in darkness, ruled by lawlessness, Byss is long departed from the near-paradise it once was during the Clone Wars.
